The Diocese of Raleigh is a Roman Catholic diocese that covers the eastern half of the U.S. state of North Carolina. It's a suffragan in the province of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Atlanta. == Cathedral churches== The bishop is seated at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh, North Carolina. There are two more former cathedrals, the Minor Basilica Basilica Shrine of St. Mary, in Wilmington, and Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, in Raleigh, but the Former Pro-Cathedral of St. Thomas the Apostle, in Wilmington, was secularized. Bishop Burbidge has announced the building of a new cathedral for the Diocese of Raleigh to replace the existing Sacred Heart Cathedral which is too small. The new cathedral will be to be named the Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus.
